At Green Feathers, we've always believed that wildlife cameras do much more than capture incredible moments from the natural world. They can also inspire curiosity, encourage scientific thinking, and help young people develop a deeper connection with nature.
That's why we're excited to announce the launch of our Green Feathers Learning Centre: a dedicated online hub where educators, parents, home-schoolers and youth groups can access free wildlife-themed learning resources designed to accompany our bird box camera kits.

Bringing Nature into the Classroom
Whether you're teaching in a classroom, running a forest school, leading an outdoor learning group, or supporting learning at home, wildlife cameras offer a unique opportunity to observe animal behaviour in real time.
To help educators make the most of these experiences, we've developed a series of curriculum-linked KS2 lesson plans centred around one of nature's most fascinating annual events: the bird nesting season.
The lesson plans have been designed to combine observation, scientific enquiry, creativity and conservation, allowing learners to experience wildlife research for themselves while supporting a real citizen science project.
Supporting Real Scientific Research
A key feature of the lesson series is its connection to the British Trust for Ornithology's (BTO) Nesting Neighbours project. The lessons use the same observation methods and nest status codes as the citizen science programme, enabling pupils to contribute meaningful wildlife records through observations made using their bird box cameras.
Students learn how to make careful observations, record evidence, identify patterns in bird behaviour and understand how scientists monitor wildlife populations. Teachers can then upload observations to the Nesting Neighbours portal, helping young people become active participants in real conservation science.
The Learning Centre launches with four KS2 lesson guides, each focused on a different stage of the nesting season. Every lesson includes approximately one hour of activities, split between wildlife observation and a practical or creative learning task.
Looking Beyond Birds
While our first Learning Centre resources focus on birds and the nesting season, this is only the beginning.
Our cameras are also used to observe a wide range of wildlife, including our beloved hedgehogs and other garden mammals. If you'd like further advice, additional activity ideas, or support using our wildlife cameras in educational settings, please get in touch as we have plenty of other information available.
If you're already using a Green Feathers bird box camera in your school, club or home, we invite you to explore the Learning Centre, download the resources and start following your nesting birds through the season.
