This was my first ever attempt at fitting a bird box camera, and it was going to be trickier than most. The birds we were going to watch were barn owls, a box already in position and we had one chance at fitting the camera. It was set up, and tested beforehand, very small unit but very effective. It was fitted and we had it all linked up to 3 phones/ipads very easily. The CS5 software for Windows allows for a lot more settings and changes. A bit tricky to set up but still managed to achieve it, support from Green Feathers has always been prompt and helpful. We have even managed to live steam the camera feed from our nest box site, currently have 2 owlets that the whole of the local bird group are watching live 24/7. The camera was £100 compared to approx £700-900 we were quoted by a wildlife camera company. Glad we did it ourselves. I just installed this camera. It's early in the season but there is a blue *** using the box at night and popping in during the day, hence this review If you want to watch on a phone / tablet / PC this is a great solution. To get good colour pictures during the day you will also need one of the LED lighting units or plastic windows in the box. If you go for the LED lighting unit you will need to run a power cable to the box in addition to the ethernet cable as the ethernet cable only powers the camera. The LED light unit cuts out as daylight fades and then you have a black and white picture. I am using the LED unit to ensure good light in the box. If you can't get the ethernet cable directly to your router then just use a power line adapter (home plug). That's what I did and it works fine. The free software is easy to set up and the Green Feathers support team are on hand to help if you get stuck. The picture quality is the best I have achieved over many years of using bird box cameras. Now we can look at the pictures on our iPads anywhere in the house plus it is easy to record or take photos. I have not tried to set up the App to allow viewing from remote locations so not sure how easy that is?
